Still on the Road towards Universal Applets 0.1 »

If you’re interested in helping make Universal Applets 0.1 happen, there’s now a list of all the bugs and blueprints that need to be fixed or implemented before the release. Check it out here.
I’m a bit bogged down with school work at the moment, but I’d love to review some patches!

Sidebar Magic »

It’s still buggy and missing a lot of features, but as of revision 469 check out the following:
$ melange –replace &
$ /usr/local/share/screenlets/SidebarUA/SidebarScreenlet.py &

$ /usr/local/share/screenlets/Meter/MeterScreenlet.py –server=Sidebar
$ /usr/local/share/screenlets/DigiClock/DigiClockScreenlet.py –server=Sidebar
Also, drop me a comment if you know of any out-of-branch screenlets whose authors haven’t been contacted yet.

UA News Roundup »

There’s a lot going on in the Universal Applets community at the moment, so I’ve decided to start writing semi-weekly wrap-up posts summarizing everything that’s happened. Here goes news roundup #1:

Universal Applets Overview »

NOTE: Some of this post is no longer relevant. Please use Universal Applet’s internal documentation.
At the moment, there’s very little documentation for developers describing the Universal Applets architecture. I’m hoping to roll out a stable release within the next week or two, and I should have the time to write up some docs after that.

Ubuntu Brainstorm and a Quick Update »

Ubuntu Brainstorm is quite nice. I submitted my first idea today:

I had some trouble booting into my computer earlier this week. It’s fixed now, but the Universal Applets release that I promised will be delayed by a few days.

Universal Applets Update »

I’m reposting a shortened version of this email to the Gnome-love list. The bolded bit talks about the project’s current status.

I’m trying to fix the problem by creating a universal applets framework for GNOME that’s mostly based on Screenlets. The goal is to create a common applet format that can be easily loaded into any [...]

First Real Commit »

I just pushed the first real commit of my branch of Screenlets to Launchpad.
It’s still a regression from the end users perspective. Don’t bother looking at it unless you’re a developer.  There’s a slightly longer explanation here.
Quick side note: I really need to write a whole post about GHOP. For now, I’d just like [...]

Quick Update on Universal Applets »

I’ve created a new branch of Screenlets on Launchpad for Universal Applets. Right now the branch is just the same as trunk, but I’ll be pushing a revision soon.
Here’s a screenshot of how things are looking right now:
