Zeitgeist Updates

Seif has done some very neat work on Zeitgeist lately. I’ve been away from coding in order to take care of personal work, but here are a few of the items on my TODO list:

1. Implicit tagging of files/documents- There are endless mountains of information on the user’s computer and on the web that can give us hints about a user’s files. I’d like to use some of this information in order to automatically sort and tag files. (E.g. Popular Delicious tags can be used to automatically label a user’s bookmarks.)

2. Automatic grouping of documents based on tags and the time they were accessed.

3. A new database design.

4. Better Open File dialogs- I’d like to display file suggestions to users based on their past file history and the list of currently open files.

  1. Seif Lotfy says:

Can you explain the first point more!
As for the second point! Why not use the most common tags browser to view the items with sharing this tags and when they were accessed! It is already possible!
The new Database design is a must! I would recommend an IRC meeting with Thorsten and Federico to discuss that matter!
I totally agree with having to change the the open file dialog!
Why not create a new todo list for ourselves! There is one in the code!

  2. Natan Yellin says:

    Hey Seif!
I’m planning on committing some code soon related to the first point- I think it should answer your question.

Regarding the tags browser, I know it’s already possible to view documents by their tags and date. (Heck, I even wrote a chunk of the code myself.) However, I’d like to make the GUI a bit more fluid and easier to use.

As you know, I’m a bit busy at the moment, but I’ll be back working on Zeitgeist’s code by next week. If you let me know when you’ll be available, we’ll work out a time to discuss the database on IRC.

  3. I was curious if you ever considered changing the page layout of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
